After independence, development of the rural sector was considered the primary concern of the Government of India. In 1949, with the appointment of the Radhakrishnan University Education Commission, imparting of agricultural education through the setting up of rural universities became the focal point. Later, in 1954 an Indo-American team led by Dr. K.R. Damle, the Vice-President of ICAR, was constituted that arrived at the idea of establishing a Rural University on the land-grant pattern of USA. As a consequence a contract between the Government of India, the Technical Cooperation Mission and some land-grant universities of USA, was signed to promote agricultural education in the country.

GBPUAT Overall ranking by NIRF is 79 out of 200 colleges in India in 2023 and it was 60 out of 200 colleges in India in 2019. GBPUAT Agriculture ranking by NIRF is 8 out of 40 colleges in India in 2023.

Priyank Pathak Scholarship:
Applications on plain paper are invited from the B.Sc. AG ,4th year students for the award of priyanka pathak scholarship @Rs. 800/-p.m.
The scholarship shall be tenable for one year from the date of registration in1st semester of 2021-2022.

Scholarship 2
Monsanto Scholarship:
Applications on plain paper are invited from the master level students ,1st year 2021-22 in the above mentioned discipline for the award of monsanto scholarship @Rs.1000/-p.m. for the scholarship is tenable for the period of three semesters from the date of registration in 2nd semester 2021-22.

Established in 1960, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) is a government university located in Uttarakhand. The university includes eight colleges approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is also a member of All India Universities (AIU). The university has 14 research centres and over 100 departments. GBPUAT offers over 137 courses at UG, PG and PhD level.
