The Institute is currently on a high growth trajectory, offering the widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education and has consistently brought notable innovations to programme design and their delivery. Many such innovations were emulated by others, and IIM Kozhikode takes pride in being a change agent that transformed the higher education space in India. The Institute has achieved such success only through academic rigour, research focus and education excellence making brand IIM Kozhikode a household name in India. It is one of the most efficient Institutions in the country, which knows how to keep balance sheet green and keep all the stakeholders happy. President APJ Abdul Kalam inaugurated the new hill-top campus of IIM Kozhikode and dedicated it to the nation in 2003, as ‘God’s own Campus’.
With its roots dating back to 1997, the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, started with a batch of 42 students for its flagship PGP course, has grown tremendously over the years, making it the fastest growing management school in the country. The Institute is currently in its Silver Jubilee Year of existence (1996-2021).
The Institute is also the first IIM to receive the coveted AMBA accreditation with fellow awardees such as London Business School, INSEAD, HEC Paris. In 2010, IIM Kozhikode signed an MOU with Yale University to establish a Center of Excellence for Academic Leadership as part of Singh-Obama Knowledge Initiative. IIM Kozhikode offered the first distance learning programme in management in Asia for working executives. Currently it is ranked 6th among all management institutes of the country as per NIRF 2020: Management Category ranking and has also made its debut at rank 101+ in Asia for its EMBA and PGP (MBA) programme as per the latest QS World University Rankings released in 2020.
IIM Kozhikode has carved out a name for itself by pioneering initiative affirmative action to bring in gender parity in its flagship programme. From a historical low of less than 10%, the Institute touched a high of 54% women in the PGP batch 17 (2013-2015) and went on to repeat the feat in the current academic year (2020-2022) for PGP 24 batch.
The ‘Kampus’ is also home to the first Museum dedicated to Indian Business (established in 2013) in the country. It is also the first institution to conceive and create a technology enabled and interactive online executive education programme which is running continuously since 2001.
IIMK offers the widest range of academic programmes in the field of management education. These include DoctoralProgramme in Management (Ph.D), Executive PG Programmes, Management Development Programmes and Faculty Development Programmes. IIMK also set up a Satellite campus at Infopark, Kochi, in 2013 dedicated to Executive Education. The Institute has also the unique distinction of launching a PhD (Practice Track) programme for working professionals besides bringing in new dynamic courses in Women Leadership, PGP in Business Leadership (2019) PGP-Finance in the year 2020. It also became the first IIM to commence a full time PGP in Liberal Studies & Management (2020).
The Institute also endeavours to give impetus to the post-doctoral research activities in the management field, dedicating over 30000 sq. ft. in library space for it, and creating a 300 people strong capacity for boarding and lodging facilities in summers. The Institute takes prides in conducting various National and International Conferences and the most recent International Conference on 'Globalizing Indian Thought' (Jan 2020) was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi, hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He also dedicated the statue of Swami Vivekanada to the nation on the occasion. The Conclave witnessed participation from stalwarts in the field of academia, administration, spiritual leaders, media heads, parliamentarians and thought leaders.
IIMK is also one of the few Centres for Development of Digital Libraries in the world and is a country leader. A prominent achievement which comes to the limelight is the establishment of an Incubation Centre for Excellence, in collaboration with the Government of Kerala to help the Scheduled Castes/tribes students overcome their deficiencies in communication, personality etc. Incidentally, IIMK is one of the few management institutes in the country who have filled full quota of SC/ST candidates in its Postgraduate Programme on regular basis with sound track record in job placement. With a highly qualified and experienced faculty, and backed by a large number of committed adjunct and visiting faculty from Industry and other leading management institutes including foreign universities, academics is always a high priority. The world class infrastructure includes air-conditioned classrooms, guest care areas and LAN/WAN/ WIFI connectivity, state of the art display screens, which enables every IIMK resident to be exposed to a wholesome experience.
The Institute has a strong International Exchange Programme for students and faculty with several leading Management Institutes in EU and ASEAN countries like SDA, Bacconi, Jonkoping, Sweden, Copenhagen Business School, Denmark, ESCAP-EAP, France; University of Queensland, Austria, Victoria University of Wellington and so on. An active member of the Strategic Management Forum, IIMK lays stress on organizing Seminar/Conferences and conducts management programs for teachers.
