CAT is like the only access for thousands of management aspirants to get into a decent MBA program. That's a wrongheaded pressure. There are hundreds of prestigious business institutes in India, and some of them are truly elite, who don't even ask for a CAT score. They instead use other national exams, their own entrance exams or your academic performance and interview. Why So Many Good B-Schools Skip CAT

There are also several private universities and independent institutions that take in students solely based on the basis of passing an exam, a group discussion, and a personal interview. How to Get Direct Admission Successfully
1. Shortlist realistically. Before applying to college, compare your academic profile, budget and the average placement package offered to students in your year level.
2. Check accreditation first. Ensure that the institute is AICTE Accredited or UGC recognised and ensure NAAC/NBA ratings if available.
3. Apply early. Direct admission or management quota seats are filled on a first-come-first-served basis; many private colleges close applications for the next batch of students in September/October.
4. Be ready for interviews, not paperwork. The personal interview is almost always a component of "direct admission" routes, as well and is an important part of any interview regardless of the program.
5. Compare ROI, not just brand name. Three years is more telling than a single good year; a modestly priced school with a good placement record can outperform a more expensive school with a poor record.
