NEET 2026 Important Dates: Exam to Counselling

The exam was to be held from May 3, 2026, in 552 cities across the country and 14 international centres, with approximately 5,000 exam centres in the country. Following the allegations of large-scale paper leakage, NTA cancelled that exam and announced a re-examination on June 21, 2026 (Sunday).

The candidates who already registered themselves do not need to register again, and the candidates who already paid the application fee will be refunded. The exam city choice window was reopened for candidates to select exam centres nearer to their home cities and the City Intimation Slip for re-exam was issued around 7th June. The Re-NEET 2026 admit card is expected by June 14, 2026.
The exam time was also increased from 180 to 195 minutes as a student-friendly change (2:00 PM – 5:15 PM) and the paper layout has been changed following student feedback.
The NEET Result 2026 is now expected in the 3rd or 4th week of July 2026, as the result is now linked to the June 21st exam, and the results are taken 20–40 days after the exam by the NTA.

How Many Students Are Affected?

More than 22.7 lakh candidates had registered for NEET UG 2026 and nearly 22 lakh had appeared for the re-exam, which was one of the largest single day re-examinations held so far in India. Mark differences of a few can make a thousand differences to a candidate's rank. In recent years, the overall qualification rate of 55-60% is expected, with most students achieving 650+ out of 720 marks, based on past trends.

 NEET 2026 Answer Key Process

NTA follows its usual procedure after the exam on June 21, the provisional answer key, recorded responses, and OMR are expected around June 24. Candidates have a specific period for raising objections, usually at the rate of ₹200 per question. Following expert review, NTA publishes the final answer key for calculating the official scores, after which no further objections will be considered. The most accurate method of estimating your score early is to match your answers to the provisional key.

What's on the NEET Scorecard?

 • Candidate's name, roll number, application number
 • Date of birth and category
 • Subject-wise marks (PCB) and Total out of 720
 • Percentile score and All India Rank (AIR)
 • Rank and qualification of the category.
 • Applicable cutoff marks
 • AIR for 15% AIQ seats and state of eligibility
The scorecard will be valid for one academic session, so download and print more than one as soon as the result is published.

NEET 2026 Tie-Breaking Rules

If candidates receive the same marks, NTA works through the marks in Biology, Chemistry and Physics; if still equal, NTA looks at the number of incorrect answers, then at the number of incorrect answers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In the event of a tie, the remaining one is drawn by lot under the auspices of an independent expert committee.

What to Do After the Result

After the results are announced (probably late July 2026) the qualified candidates proceed to NEET counselling which takes place at two levels: NEET AIQ counselling done by MCC for 15% seats in government, central, deemed, ESIC and AFMC colleges and NEET State Quota counselling done by government of states for 85% seats including private colleges.
Candidates are allowed to register for both subjects and if they are allotted seats in both, he/she has to select one. Counselling is conducted in four rounds: Round 1 – initial allotment with accept/upgrade/wait options, Round 2 – Counselling for students who didn't get a seat in initial allotment or want to upgrade, Mop-Up Round – allotment of vacancies in deemed or private colleges, and Stray Vacancy Round – allotment of seats remaining after Mop-Up Round.
Candidates should take prompt action at every step of the process and prepare the documents in advance – Score card, Admit card, 10th/12th certificates, Category certificates, ID proof, and Photographs.

 Conclusion

NEET 2026 has been one of the most eventful cycles in recent years: the first exam took place on May 3 and was cancelled, and now Re-NEET 2026 is scheduled for June 21. Due to this, it is expected that NEET Result 2026 will be out in the 3rd–4th week of July 2026, although the June release had been anticipated. In the meanwhile, concentrate on the re-exam, use the provisional answer key to get in a ballpark, have documents prepared, and research colleges and counselling as a way to be ready to take quick action when results and cutoffs are issued. Regularly visit neet.nta.nic.in for updates as schedules are subject to change.
