 CAT Score and Selection Process

CAT is held on various timings and the difficulty level of the different timings will be different, so score normalization is done after the exam for calculating percentile scores fairly.
Generally, top 95-99 percentiles are considered as the IIM cutoffs for general category. Other non-IIM colleges, such as FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon and SPJIMR Mumbai will begin at 90-95 percentile. The weightage of CAT percentile and academics and work experience in IIM shortlisting is different from one institute to another. The final selection is through a Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

 Preparation Tips

There is an overall CAT percentile as well as section-wise percentile. Therefore, a poor performance in one section will not affect the overall percentile. Time management is a key skill — candidates are given 40 minutes per section and it's important that they practice timed from day one.
In addition to studying it is important that mock tests are taken and performance is analysed. These tests will identify weak points and enhance time management. It is also important to keep up to date on any changes in the exam structure on the official CAT website.

 Conclusion

The Common Admission Test or CAT exam is much more than a gateway to an MBA. In addition to admission into an institute, CAT opens the doors to elite internships, international fellowships and top-notch placements after an MBA degree. Be it a recent graduate or a working professional, a good CAT score can be the game changer that opens the gates to the top management institutions of the country and a life changing career in business.
